Reducing Company Energy Costs

August 30, 2013 - By timlaight

The Carbon Trust (the Governments portal for energy efficiency) has just voted the installation of energy efficient lighting the top green technology investment a company can make. At last we have recognition that this new technology is a real money saver, although lighting manufacturers have been accused of exaggerating the savings to some extent. This is independent verification that investment in new lighting technology really is one of the smartest investments a business can make. The Government is so keen to push this technology they are even considering making this investment mandatory in commercial buildings so tenants get the full benefit of these massive savings. Critically it also helps the Government achieve their carbon reduction targets.

It’s really not hard to calculate the savings. An LED lamp that can emit the same amount of light as a low voltage halogen lamp burns about 6 Watts of energy compared to a 50 watts retrospectively. That’s close to an 80 percent direct energy saving. With electricity prices at an all time high heading up every year that amounts to a significant reduction in energy costs. Factor in the reduction in maintenance as these new lamps are guaranteed to last 6 years in normal service. Only a very foolish business man will spend his budget elsewhere.

LED and High Frequency Lighting Solutions

At Sky Electrical we have installed numerous LED and high frequency lighting solutions by Electricians in Twickenham in schools both in the private and public sector. In fact, during the last month, trail blazer Radnor House in Twickenham converted all the lighting in their school to LED in a bid to become one of the greenest schools in the area check it out. If we can encourage more schools in the public sector to do the same the amount saved can be reinvested in the education of children rather than wasting energy; critically we need to encourage facilities managers to look at the ROI figures (although they speak for themselves) and the Carbon Trust will assist in providing impartial advice and help find an electrician if needed.
