Teenagers Turn Off The Lights

Teenagers turning off the lights | Sky Electrical Uk

How can I get my teenagers to turn off their bedroom lights?

As a father of two teenagers even I struggle trying to get the message across to my kids, the importance of turning off the lights and I am a trained electrician at Electrician in Richmond I have thought about putting in movement sensors but that has lots of drawbacks. Imagine getting up in the middle of the night to answer a call of nature and with one movement eight low voltage recessed lights go on full blast. I can only imagine the response I would get from my 16 year old daughter. The cost of energy is so high now it really bugs me when I find lights left on with no one in the room or worst still left on during the day when just opening the blinds there is ample light to see any bedroom. As I have got older and grumpier the waste of money and lack of thought for our environment has caused no end of family arguments.

There is now a solution, aside from kicking out your lovely teenager daughter and landing up with a divorce. I just removed the light and transformer and converted the original recessed down light to a mains lamp holder and fitted a 6 watt warm white LED lamp. Instead of the lights costing £1.56 each week to run .Without any change of habit from my daughter the same amount of lights cost 19 pence a week to run. At just 19pence it was hardly worth having the argument to turn the lights off in my opinion? What’s more the lamp is expected to last 20 years so my home maintenance list has become a little shorter too.

If you need help with your troublesome teenager leaving the lights on, ask Sky Electrical or find an electrician to fit some LED light conversions into your existing lights. It really is a worthwhile investment. Click here to find out more.
